As the world marks a significant shift from the archaic systems to digital systems, Multipurpose Community Centre tirelessly works to adapt to the everchanging world that steers towards information communication technology, through skilling and training with vision to unlock career success. Gone are the days when job market systems were entirely built on mechanization, manual work and rudimentary tools. With the advancement in technology in artificial intelligence and computer science (machine learning, data science & algorithms), job market structure and dynamics have greatly evolved that for a youth to favorably compete for any job amidst stiff competition, computer literacy is an undisputed requirement. Its at this moment that Multipurpose community center steps in to change the narrative through conducting extensive ICT training and skilling especially in Nakivale refugee camp and the surrounding host communities.
This ICT skilling and training program cover a wider range of areas right from computer applications, computer basics and computer graphics: the latter skills are key in rendering a youth a suitable candidate for many career opportunities in the current competitive world. MCC has high end computer laboratories that are; stocked with enough computers, connected to 5G internet, connected to wireless internet service and computers with up-to-date software crucial for ICT skilling program. The facility alone is staffed with highly trained, and diligent mentors and trainers whose commitment to refugee ICT skilling is exceptional! Thanks to NELHIN Uganda manages the facility’s human resource. Statistics show that over 1700 refugees have attained ICT and digital skills from MCC: this proves beyond reasonable doubt that there is a strong impact that can be felt at the grass root. Most of our alumnus have not only used the aforementioned skills to harness employment opportunities but have also used them to start entrepreneurial ventures. Some of these ventures include graphics design businesses, typing and printing services .
The MCC is not exclusive to ICT training alone: it also houses a wider range of other skilling programs in fashion & design, hair dressing and business skilling. The fruits borne by such programs have been instrumental in promoting financial sustainability, resilience and adaptability. MCC is a large training facility (Nakivale & Rubondo) managed by New Life Horizon Initiative; with support from from partners.
